What's All This?

What's all this you ask?
Well....I thought it might be fun to show the process of coming up with the designs for a bridal show. This Saturday & Sunday we are participating in the Lafayette Bridal Show, our first since moving the flower shop to West Lafayette. I'm told to expect approximately 500 brides to attend. Accompanied by the Mothers, friends, grooms, etc. we're told we could be showing our designs to 1200 to 1500 people during this two day show.

Below are some of the flowers, ribbons, fabrics, containers etc. that I have chosen to base our elegant romantic wedding theme from. Tomorrow I will start the centerpiece designs & the bouquets & body flowers will be designed on Friday. I am planning to continue posting each day as it progresses so that you can see what can be created with all the components that you see here. To see the details better, you can click each photo to enlarge them.

Don't be surprised if things get changed during the process. Once I start to put the bouquets together, new ideas may spark & I may choose to change up some of the flowers. We'll see how it all starts to come together.

This color palette was developed from the wide ribbon you see here. I fell in love with it's elegance & knew it would be perfect with the selections of fabrics. It really isn't as burgundy as it looks in the photo. It has an iridescence to it & can have a green cast to it as well, depending on how the light hits it.

With what you see here, this is what is being planned:

Bridal Bouquet
Maid of Honor Bouquet
Corsage
Boutonniere
Flower Girl Pomander
Low centerpiece in the mosaic glass container
Tall centerpiece on the candle stick

We will be decorating a cake to go with this color palette too. I'm not sure, but I think the cake might have a mocha butter cream frosting. All square cakes stacked one on top of the other. That will remain a surprise till Friday.

We are also designing another completely different color palette of kiwi green & shades of lavenders to deep purple. If I get a chance I may post it in progression too. If not, it will be shown completely finished at the bridal show.

The White Iris

The Iris danced across
the ancient Grecian skies. Gliding with her
embossed
satiny milken sides.

Her lithe and nimble limbs moved methodically...
From her cream white petals to her supple stem. The nectar that she carried was transposed into a hymn.

"I must use my moments wisely, for they shall soon pass away... And be lost to me forever... A mere memory of my yesterdays...

"Thus she sung
And thus she cried.
Her voice set to harp
And lyre. So true a call
So true a heart did Zeus himself see...

"Come now unto
Mt Olympus

Oh white Iris,
And our announcer be"...
She floated along
In such a curving grace...
Transposed she was
In time and space...

The blessed arched path
Which she did go,
Became the journey for
All our eternal rainbows.
