~ Pink Saturday~ Italian Ceramic Basket

Welcome Pink Saturday, 2009!! Visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound to see all the pink lovelies there are for today!

I found this wonderful ceramic basket in the upstairs of my Husband's grandparent's house, when I was going through all of their things after they had passed. We inherited their home & it was up to me to go through all of their things when we divided everything up & cleaned out the house for us to move in
.
This little beauty was sitting on a set of metal shelves in what we referred to as the "Warehouse!" The "Warehouse" was what is now my middle bedroom upstairs, that Granny kept extras of EVERYTHING!! I do mean EVERYTHING!! Once when we first got married we needed a toaster, so before we went to town to purchase one we, Granny invited us to visit the "Warehouse"...not only did she have a toaster, we had our choice of color!! I know, too funny...still makes me laugh when I think of it.

I love the shape of the base & all of the gold on the edges. The ceramic flowers look like they were made separate & then attached. I'm not even sure what it was for, my best guess was maybe to sit in a bedroom dressing table....anyone have any other guesses?

I really don't know anything about this piece except for the fact it is one of my favorite pieces. I have never seen another one like it. Click on any of the pictures to get a closer look, you will be able to see all of the details much better.

This is the marking on the bottom of the basket.

If anyone happens to know anything about this or knows where I might find information about it, I would love for you to share it with me in the comment box.

It is indeed gorgeous, delicate and looks like fine china. We have TV program in the UK called 'Cash in the attic' and a they will go round your house particulary in unused rooms up in the attic in the basement and pull out items which you have stored away and value them. Folk have been astonished at the money they have raised with items they just had in storage or tucked away somewhere.

Thanks too for the tip re my hyacinth bulbs - much appreciated. Judith

Very pretty and definitely pink.Fun to have inherited it. Are there finger prints in the petals of the flowers? This could be an early Capodimonte piece. Made in ....or just name of country will date the piece.
Thanks for showing and telling, also stopping by my blog today.

I had to chuckle when I read about your grandmother's "warehouse". My Grandpa had one, too. After he passed away there were shelves in his basement covered with toasters, coffee makers, slippers that he liked, flannel shirts, you get the idea....but unfortunetly for me no beautiful china like your dish. Happy Pink Saturday! ~ Robyn

I will bet it is a special antique! If it is from Grandmas warehouse then it is most likely stored for a reason! I had a garage sale one time and a girlfriend was selling her grandmothers plates until I turned them over and showed her the stamp at the bottom. She rushed them back to her house right away!lol I have been so busy trying to get my feet wet again with drawing!I always have had a fear of it! I have some eye candy to show you all, everyone drop by to take a peek I am in the process of a new collaborated sketch/digital design. I need your support!

Hello Tammy
Your little ceramic basket is adorable. It would look like sitting on a dresse in the bedroom. I wonder whether you could put some little mints in it and set it at your dinner table when you are entertaining.
It looks very delicate. How fortunate you were left with that very special gift.
have a lovely day

Hi Tammy, I'm thinking your beautiful dish is for candy. Marks are sometimes the # in the sequence and person's intials molding or making. Absolutly a stunner either way.

Well good gracious! I'm finally getting around to PS on Tuesday, my gosh! Love the dish, although I cannot help in id'ing it at all. Have a super week!

The White Iris

The Iris danced across
the ancient Grecian skies. Gliding with her
embossed
satiny milken sides.

Her lithe and nimble limbs moved methodically...
From her cream white petals to her supple stem. The nectar that she carried was transposed into a hymn.

"I must use my moments wisely, for they shall soon pass away... And be lost to me forever... A mere memory of my yesterdays...

"Thus she sung
And thus she cried.
Her voice set to harp
And lyre. So true a call
So true a heart did Zeus himself see...

"Come now unto
Mt Olympus

Oh white Iris,
And our announcer be"...
She floated along
In such a curving grace...
Transposed she was
In time and space...

The blessed arched path
Which she did go,
Became the journey for
All our eternal rainbows.
