~Tablescape Tuesday~ Bridal Style!

Today my Tablescape Tuesday is a bit different. I thought I'd show you the 5 different tablescapes we did for a wedding this past October. I'd like to thank Susan of Between Naps On The Porch for hosting this fun parade of tables each Tuesday. Visit her blog to see a complete list of all the ladies who are participating today.

This first shot is of the cake table. When we got there the cake was completely bare. We added the gold ribbon, the green cymbidium orchids, & the amber/gold crystals on the top. It was such a nice change to use the gold cake riser...usually my brides choose to use silver ones.

This an overall shot of the ball room where the reception was held. We used 5 different styles of containers some with flowers, some with just mixed greenery, twigs, leaves, & some with just candle light.

This is one of the gold mosaic glass urns we used just candle light. There was a candle tucked down inside nestled amongst coffee beans. It served as a riser for the 3" cream pillar candles & add an aroma that was not offensive & didn't fight with the delicious smell of the food. It was a scent that would belonged in the room, unlike other types of scented candles. The candles were just a light vanilla scent. They were was placed on rented mirror squares & gemstones were scattered for sparkle. The tiny gold picture frames each had a favorite quote of the bride & groom...sort of a Thank you for sharing in our special day type of quote.

This is another example of a beautiful piece of glass in a champagne color with a crackle finish. It also held a 3" pillar candle nestled in coffee beans with the same table top treatment as the one above.

We also used some simple hurricane glass globes directly on top of the mirror square with coffee beans & this time we used a 3" gold pillar candle to pick up the gold color. A sheer gold ribbon was tied around the top of the hurricane for a nice touch.
For a bit of color & softness we placed 3 green cymbidium orchids around the base of the hurricane.

This centerpiece was designed using green Dendrobium orchids, Circus Orange roses, Sahara blush roses, Sahara, brown Hypericum berries & seeded eucalyptus that had been tinted in rust, burgundy, & gold. Curly willow that we tinted copper was added for height. The container was a gold mosaic glass on a pedestal like the mosaic glass vase below.

The largest of the centerpieces were designed on top of a gold mosaic glass container that sat on a wooden base. We made the centerpieces in a glass design bowl that sat perfectly on top of the mosaic glass.
To achieve the brown shades we needed we used magnolia leaves but flipped them wrong side up. The rest of the arrangement was a mixture of copper curly willow, seeded eucalyptus that was tinted in gold, rust, & burgundy. Green millet & brown broom corn was added for texture.
For an added touch we placed small tap lights inside the glass nestled in coffee beans to illuminate the glass from the bottom.

Custom Champagne/gold colored sheer fabric squares were made to sit under the mirror squares on top of the cream linens. Brown linen napkins completed the table settings.

This was a fun wedding to do...my bride gave me her colors, she purchased all of the glassware we used for all of the centerpieces last year at Pier 1 after Christmas on a 75% off clearance then pretty much let me run with it. This is my kind of wedding complete creative freedom!

~Christmas Mantle Take II~

About a week or so ago I posted a blog with a photo of my unfinished mantle & asked for some suggestions as to what I should add to finish it. I really didn't get many ideas, but one that did stand out to me was that I should just add my family.

So here is my mantle as it looked today when I hosted our family Christmas with my Dad. I added the Amaryllis from my Tablescape Tuesday Table & my family. Well part of it anyway. Hubby none too eager to participate!

These are my guys, Mason(18) & Evan(23) very reluctantly posing for this. Just trying to keep Mom happy! Thanks guys!

This is Evan & his girlfriend of 7 years Val. She is also a designer at my flower shop.

Here is one of Mason & his girlfriend, Victoria. Ahh young love!

Group shot...aren't they adorable, I think so!!

We have had a very Merry Christmas, all 3 of them so far...that's right, 3 & I have one more on New Year's Day! I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas too &
I wish you all a very Happy New Year...may it be filled with love, happiness, & peace!

Love,
Tammy

"Blue Monday" ~ Baby Shower Florals ~

Once again it is Blue Monday...as it turns out it is also the last of the year. So I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!
Have fun & be safe!!

For a list of all the participants of Blue Monday visit, Sally at: Smiling Sally

Today I'd like to show you examples of centerpiece designs using something other than common flowers such as: carnations, mums, daisies etc.

Here are a couple of centerpieces that were designed for a "Upscale" baby shower. I was told that their color scheme was blue, cream & brown, given the dimensions of each table, & told to do whatever I wanted. With that color scheme it is already nontraditional, I knew this would be fun.

My clients asked for centerpieces for a shower for a baby boy. They wanted an upscale look using unique flowers. They didn't want anything traditional, using common baby shower flowers.

I choose blue hydrangeas, cream lilies, cream roses, cream stock, seeded eucalyptus & added fresh sage that I tinted brownish copper. I then added curly willow, to give it a wild effect, that was also tinted brownish copper. I'm sure that the centerpiece was beautiful the day of the shower after the flowers had a chance to completely open.
This one was for a large dinning room table.

This was the coordinating piece that I designed for the kitchen table. Again I used a mass style of blue hydrangea and accented with the tinted sage & curly willow. This centerpiece needed to be much smaller to fit on a 60" round table.

~Pink Saturday~ Vintage Floral Prints~

For more Pink Saturday beauties visit Beverly at: How Sweet the Sound

Pictured here are 2 of my favorite vintage finds. I found these two floral prints by Paul de Longpre at one of my favorite antique shops. They are pages from a calender dated 1911.
When I found them, they were just the prints in plastic wrap. I thought that they'd be perfect in my green & pink kitchen, so I had them framed. They now hang proudly in a corner of the kitchen between a bathroom & the dining room. They look great on the green walls & blend nicely with my collection of vintage floral painted dishes.

Here you can see the calender part of the prints. One print represented May/June and the other represented July/August. I would love to see the rest of the prints from that calender, I am sure they were just as beautiful.

~A Christmas Blessing for my Friends~

Wishing you & your families a very Blessed Christmas filled with the joy of celebrating the birth of the King.
As I am preparing to celebrate this Christmas with my family & friends, I am reminded of a day a few years back. While singing during the worship portion of our church service, in my mind I kept hearing a particular phrase over & over in my head. As I continued singing, it just kept repeating, to the point where I was compelled to go forth in church & share it with the congregation. I knew that this had to be from God, because I would never do something like this on my own accord.

Today as we celebrate the birth of our King, I'd like to share that Word from the Lord with you.

"Hear ye o children of the Lord, take these gifts that I have given you, untie the strings that bind them. Take them out, for they are not meant for you alone. Share them with others, so that they too may know the wonders of My love."

To this day I am not certain why God chose me for this Word from Him, but I do know that when we are open to Him & Believe...He will use us. I am grateful that on that particular day, my heart was open..and He spoke to me.

We have all been blessed with many different gifts & talents, I've witnessed that here amongst my blogging friends. What ever our gifts are, we must know that they are not meant for us to use solely for ourselves. We've been blessed with gifts to use to bless others & show His love to those who need Him. Choose this day to share God's greatest Gift with others...His Son, Jesus!

It is with a joyful heart that I celebrate this Christmas!....O come, O come Emmanuel!
God is indeed with us!!

Merry Christmas my friends, You have all been a blessing to me this past year!
Much Love,
~Tammy~

~ Tablescape Tuesday ~ " Simple Elegance"

Today is Tablescape Tuesday hosted by Susan of, Between Naps on the Porch
visit this blog to see a complete list of participants. If you have not planned your tablescape for Christmas yet, then you need look no further. There are quite a few very talented & creative ladies here with beautiful ideas.

Deep Christmas red Amaryllis & mixed winter greenery combine together for a classic look in this dark pottery with a simple red velvet ribbon tied around it. I added some gold millimeter balls for a punch of color at the base nestled in the greenery.
My table runner is a mixture of solid green damask & holly printed napkins that overlap on the diagonal. I evenly turned under the other corners of the napkin to give the appearance of a table runner.

The Centerpiece of the table is a large scalloped pillar candle in layers of red in a glass vase surrounded by fresh cranberries. I set that in the center of a fresh balsam, pine & cedar wreath with 3 gold bows with gold millimeter balls glued in the center of each bow. On either side I have used 2 of my crystal sherbet glasses, I turned two deep red satin finished Christmas ornaments upside down. I love the velvet flourishes on the satin finish.

Each place setting is one of my white china plates with a printed paper plate on top. The crystal tea glass has a large candy cane tied with a piece of red mesh ribbon inside of it for each guest to either take home or use to stir a cup of cocoa after dinner. The crystal sherbet glass at each place has a fresh red rose floating in it. I tied a matching piece of the mesh ribbon around the stem of the glass to carry out the theme & add a bit of color to the crystal.

I love the simplicity of the setting, yet it still has an elegance about it.

As a finishing touch I tied a large red ornament to the bottom tip of the chandelier with gold ribbon to carry the color & the eye upward off the table.

Notes: The Amaryllis were actually designed to be used on a mantle. They were rented last weekend from my flower shop & used at the home of a Mary Kay consultant for her open house. They are artificial.....I know...they look real, HUH!!
The paper plates & the ornaments (last year) were purchased from TJMAXX...one of my favorite stores. They have the coolest things...always great finds! I buy a lot of containers in there for my flower shop. That way I have one of a kind items for special orders & ME!!

Wishing you all a very Blessed & Merry Christmas!
Tammy

Favorite Christmas Gifts From Youth ~ What's Yours? ~ Blue Monday!

This is my first posting on Blue Monday...my contribution is Elvis' Christmas Album, it featured Blue Christmas & he was wearing that oh, so handsome blue shirt set in front of the blue skies. Boy was he a looker! And he could sing too!!

Visit Smiling Sally's Blog to see the complete list of participants.

I received this album for Christmas when I was about 10. I played it over & over on the record player that I received that year as well. It was played every year at Christmas till it sounded awful, due to all of the scratches it had accumulated over the years. Don't you just love the sound of old vinyl records? The pops & cracks...and the sound of the voices. CD's just don't have that.

Coloring books & crayons were a gift that I received every year. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the new box of crayons....with their sharp unused tips & new colors. A stack of new coloring books..free of any marks & full of imagery to bring to life. Of course I was one of those kids who colored inside the lines...but always embellished the pages with things that were not there. Adding window boxes & flowers to my houses, patterns on dresses, the sky was the limit. I would create in my coloring books things that I wished I had in my real life.

Oh the Spirograph...this was something that I spent hours playing with. Layering swirl over magical swirl & then coloring them in with colored ink pens for details. They reminded me of whimsical flowers. They finished pieces were hung in my room as little pieces of art.

What fun! The Easy Bake Oven...that was till the mixes ran out. Which was usually pretty quickly at my house & my parents were not ones to run right out to buy more. So...I can remember after the cake mixes were gone, I would mix up powdered laundry soap & bake them. Then they would get coats of paint to make them appear to be little cakes that were then placed on display on my dresser. OMWord that was nutty, HUH?

Do you remember the Dancerina Doll? I had one...loved her more than anything. I received her when I was about 7 or 8...I had just started taking ballet & tap dancing lessons. I thought she was the greatest thing I had ever laid eyes on. Now when I think about it...All she really did was go round & round. I don't think I even had other clothes for her to change into. But for years she sat proudly in the middle of my canopy bed amongst the pillows.

One of my most vivid memories from all of my Christmases had to be when I was in the second grade. I had just opened up the "coolest" silver Timex watch with a black velvet like band. I loved it...till I heard my Dad say to my Mom, "See I told you she would love it!" ....That is when I found out that there was really NO SANTA!! SADDEST Christmas EVER!!

What are some of your favorite toys you received for Christmas?

Christmas at White Iris Designs ~ Welcome

This is a shot of one of the two front windows. With the windows facing the north it makes it difficult to get a good shot, due to lighting. The tall cylinders are a MUST in the shop. We change them with florist foil & fabric all the time. They allow us to go vertical with out taking up much floor space.

This is the back wall of the shop to the left of my flower cooler & storage room door. Here is where we post daily specials..on my extremely large black board!! The black board is directly in view when you walk in the front door. That way customers can see right away what the special flower of the day is.

Here is my faux fireplace. The mantle is completely different now than when I took this photo. (might have to re shoot it. Directly to the right of the fireplace is a burgundy velvet sofa from the 40's. It use to be in my home & when I got new furniture we decided instead of selling it, we would bring it into the shop. It is where my husband's clients sit to fill out their client information sheets.

By the way, if you do not know, my husband is a massage therapist & he has a spa room in my flower shop.
I know flowers, jewelry & massage...What more could a lady ask for?

At last...MY NEW SIGN!! It is illuminated from the back & I love it! When the weather gets warmer, they are going to letter the windows with the name of the flower shop & my phone number. It is just too cold here for them to try to install from outside & the reflective white tape I want to use cannot be installed on the inside....so we wait!
This is the front of my flower shop...I would love to have lights outside..but I have no electrical outlets there. Maybe next year I can get the landlords to install some.

I hope to post a few more photos of the inside, if the lighting will cooperate.
Enjoy your Sunday!

My First Ever ~Pink Saturday~

When I ran across this little group of "Pink Saturday" Ladies, I couldn't resist joining in on the fun. I believe I may have been a bit too late to make it on the list of posted blogs participating, but here is my first Pink Saturday contribution. I think I could go on for many Saturdays to come & not run out of things pink to post...You'll see...I am kinda fond of pink!!

This is the bracelet & matching earrings that Lady Jane of Lady Jane's Emporium won in my Christmas Tree contest. She told me that she likes pink & black, so I made something that I hope she will be able wear a lot.
Enjoy you jewels Lady Jane!

Thanks Beverly & Pink Saturday Ladies for letting me join your fun!

Frozen Beauty

This is the beautiful sight outside my front door this morning. Gorgeous red berries encased in an icy shell...How Christmasy is that? These branches would look lovely in tall vases on my mantle....but only for about 2 minutes.
Aahhh winter in Indiana, first snow, then sleet, then rain & finally a frozen delight.

My Christmas Mantle

This is the fire place in my living room. I have gotten this far with the decorations... now I know it needs something else, but what. I am asking for your opinions & ideas on what to use to finish my mantle. I do this for other clients all the time without hesitation, but I am bored with all of my ideas from years past. Looking for something inexpensive, new & fresh. Can be traditional or nontraditional.

I look forward to some wonderful ideas, so don't be shy. When I finish it I will repost with the new photo of the finished mantle.

Tablescape Tuesday ~ Newbie ~

This is my maiden voyage into the Tablescape Tuesday Showcase!
All components used in the making of this tablescape were brought home Monday evening from my flower shop in a box. Each piece was made using random bits & pieces of flowers & ornaments that were left over from other arrangements that I have made in the flower shop.
Vintage or new ornaments could be substituted for the millimeter balls. These were just what I had on hand at the shop. The ornaments at each place setting were also some left overs from the flower shop.
I love to take little bits of nothing, put it together & see what I can come up with.
Hope you enjoy my table.

I apologize for the lighting...the chandelier is the only light I have in the dining room & by the time I got home & set the table up it was completely dark outside.

The table is two layers of cream table cloths. One is a vintage damask & it is covered by a vintage lace. I used a small leftover piece of Christmas tree draping down the center in a pinkish copper color. The millimeter balls are placed in some of my husband's Grannie's crystal sherbet glasses.

This is the opposite end arranged with the same sherbet glasses & millimeter balls. The strings of crystal garlands are bits leftover from other arrangements.

The centerpiece of the tablescape is a topiary of sugared fruit ornaments stacked one upon the other on top of a candle stick. There is some random greenery & pieces of a burgundy hydrangea around the bottom.

The two other little arrangements are using the same components as the candle stick topiary. One is hydrangea with a sugared burgundy pear arranged in a gold ceramic pot. The other is a green sugared pear ornament arranged on top of hydrangea leaves.

The china is a combination of my cream & my gardenia pattern with gold edge intermixed. The crystal, the china & the flatware, (which is Dirilyte), were all inherited from my husbands Grannie.

The White Iris

The Iris danced across
the ancient Grecian skies. Gliding with her
embossed
satiny milken sides.

Her lithe and nimble limbs moved methodically...
From her cream white petals to her supple stem. The nectar that she carried was transposed into a hymn.

"I must use my moments wisely, for they shall soon pass away... And be lost to me forever... A mere memory of my yesterdays...

"Thus she sung
And thus she cried.
Her voice set to harp
And lyre. So true a call
So true a heart did Zeus himself see...

"Come now unto
Mt Olympus

Oh white Iris,
And our announcer be"...
She floated along
In such a curving grace...
Transposed she was
In time and space...

The blessed arched path
Which she did go,
Became the journey for
All our eternal rainbows.
