Just a bit of Halloween fun with flowers....yep, you busted me..this is about as creepy & spooky as I get! No dressing up, no trick or treating & definitely, positively NO scary movies for me!!

White Iris Designs in the Community!

Since the move of my flower shop to West Lafayette, I am finding that I am basically in a starting over position. I am an established business with years of floral design experience, who is trying to get my designs noticed by a whole new community & client base. A challenge....to be sure!

So, I have decided one of the best ways to achieve this is by becoming involved in the community. Above you will find the photos of the silk pumpkin arrangement & fresh flower table favors we provided for the 3rd annual Mary Kay Ash Foundation charitable style show. We donated the silk arrangement for the silent auction & the fresh flower arrangements were for the 8 people who sat at the table we sponsored.

The other community function we participated in was Oktoberfest, last Saturday. It was not a big money maker for us but we did get our name out there & we did sell half of the garden flower arrangements we designed in antique ball jars.

I think by being seen in the community, getting our name out there, & by getting our designs seen by the public, we will eventually be on our way to success!

We also have started a "Business of the Week" program, which I will be posting about in the near future. Fingers crossed...we will soon be making a name for ourselves in our new community.

Noted Memories Offered Proudly at White Iris Designs!

White Iris Designs would like to introduce you to a wonderful handmade card & scrapbook designer who's creations can now be purchased in our West Lafayette, IN location. I met Ms. Vickie, the creative spirit behind Noted Memories on a wonderful network called iEmporium, a site dedicated to bringing merchants & shoppers together. But I have found that it is very helpful to bring merchants with retail stores together with merchants who offer unique products that we can carry in our shops.

As the owner of a brick & mortar retail business, I am looking for unique items to offer to my customers that they cannot find in other shops in the area. So when I saw the lovely cards & scrapbooks that Vickie created, I knew they were just what I was looking for in a line of unique greeting cards. No two are the same. Each one was designed just for my shop, with some even being hand painted. Vickie's attention to detail is amazing. Her creations are full of great embelishments that make each card unique & sparkle. I requested that she take the artwork from my logo & create some custom cards we could use to send out Thank you's to our preferred customers, she did & as you can see they are fabulous!

We have sold some of her cards already & have heard nothing but wonderful comments on her designs. I cannot wait to see her Christmas & Valentine's Day creations. She is in the process of designing some scrapbooks for new babies & engagement, that our customers can use as a base to just add their personal photos.

Vickie is a very talented lady who has a great spirit & loves what she does. I think it is obvious in the beauty she creates. Not only do I count her as one of my favorite vendors for my shop, she has become a great new friend!

We're Happy To Meet You!

I thought I'd share with you some photos of our opening day in our new location. The mini cake was given to us by Baker's Peak, the bakery in our plaza...how thoughtful & cute! They make them & display them on an antique plate which you keep. Nice presentation.

I would like to introduce you to Valerie (or Val as we all call her) she has been working with me for about 6 years. She started out coming in after school to clean up after me..poor girl! I can be a bit messy. Then she got initiated into the book work by doing our house account invoices. Boring, I must say!

Seeing that she was interested in the designing aspect of the flower shop, she began greening & prepping containers for me during the holiday season. Before long she was designing small arrangements on her own.
Now she has graduated into a wonderful designer, in her own right. She is able to do pretty mcuh everything that I do, which frees me up to take days off & go on vacation. Val is also responsible for some of the jewelry designs we sell in the shop.

She is a wonderful asset to me & White Iris Designs. Oh, & did I mention that she just turned 21...wow great accomplishments for someone so young. And she is my future daughter-in-law! We're keeping it all in the family!

And for those of you who might not know...that's me in the blue! I have been doing floral design for over 25 years & still love what I do. I too started out after school & developed my design skills by on the job experience. I have never attended any type of floral design school or classes. All self taught or I learned from watching others.
