This is my first posting on Blue Monday...my contribution is Elvis' Christmas Album, it featured Blue Christmas & he was wearing that oh, so handsome blue shirt set in front of the blue skies. Boy was he a looker! And he could sing too!!

I received this album for Christmas when I was about 10. I played it over & over on the record player that I received that year as well. It was played every year at Christmas till it sounded awful, due to all of the scratches it had accumulated over the years. Don't you just love the sound of old vinyl records? The pops & cracks...and the sound of the voices. CD's just don't have that.

Coloring books & crayons were a gift that I received every year. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the new box of crayons....with their sharp unused tips & new colors. A stack of new coloring books..free of any marks & full of imagery to bring to life. Of course I was one of those kids who colored inside the lines...but always embellished the pages with things that were not there. Adding window boxes & flowers to my houses, patterns on dresses, the sky was the limit. I would create in my coloring books things that I wished I had in my real life.

Oh the Spirograph...this was something that I spent hours playing with. Layering swirl over magical swirl & then coloring them in with colored ink pens for details. They reminded me of whimsical flowers. They finished pieces were hung in my room as little pieces of art.

What fun! The Easy Bake Oven...that was till the mixes ran out. Which was usually pretty quickly at my house & my parents were not ones to run right out to buy more. So...I can remember after the cake mixes were gone, I would mix up powdered laundry soap & bake them. Then they would get coats of paint to make them appear to be little cakes that were then placed on display on my dresser. OMWord that was nutty, HUH?
Do you remember the Dancerina Doll? I had one...loved her more than anything. I received her when I was about 7 or 8...I had just started taking ballet & tap dancing lessons. I thought she was the greatest thing I had ever laid eyes on. Now when I think about it...All she really did was go round & round. I don't think I even had other clothes for her to change into. But for years she sat proudly in the middle of my canopy bed amongst the pillows.
One of my most vivid memories from all of my Christmases had to be when I was in the second grade. I had just opened up the "coolest" silver Timex watch with a black velvet like band. I loved it...till I heard my Dad say to my Mom, "See I told you she would love it!" ....That is when I found out that there was really NO SANTA!! SADDEST Christmas EVER!!
What are some of your favorite toys you received for Christmas?

LOL Lady Jane, You are a hoot! Val happens to be my girl Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sat.....she is also ALMOST my daughter in law! She has worked for me for 6 years & dated my son for 7...but get this..she is only 21!!
According to mapquest & it's questionable reliability...we are approximately 135 miles from St. John, IN.
I await your visit!
I loved your Blue Monday post! It was such a nice walk down Memory Lane. And that Elvis is still a hunka-hunk of burning love! ;-)
I wanted one of those E-Z Bake ovens, but my mother was afraid of it for some reason. I atribute my lack of one with my lack of cooking ability today! ;-)
I loved each Christmas of my life. As a child, I can't think of one that was better than the next because I was very blessed to have parents who were not only good Santas but good parents, and we always spent Christmas with our cousins which made it extra special! We were excited to look at each other's gifts, too. I loved Barbie stuff and my little piano and Chatty Baby and Tiny Tears and so many wonderful things about Christmas. I loved the earrings my mother gave me the year before she died, and I love the pizza pan an elderly man gave me out of his penury. I just love Christmas!
Thanks for this post...
Happy Blue Monday and glad you joined us!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Welcome to your first Blue Monday; I'm so glad that you've joined in the fun. I enjoyed going back in time--always love Elvis. I was 13 when he sang on the Ed Sullivan Show. Happy Blue Monday.
So many memories popping up here reading your Blue Monday Post! That Elvis album is very cool!!
Have a wonderful Christmas...
Welcome to Blue Monday! I had a spirograph when I was young. I remember having fun with that. I think I bought my kids one too! Thank you for visiting me today. Happy Blue Monday and Merry Christmas!!
Hello..
Welcome to Blue Monday
I have had such a nice visit at your blog and I will be back to read more!
Oh you have brought back memories…the spirograph fun stuff. The Elvis record. I never had that one but I do remember having to be sooo careful with records and taking good care of the needle so your favourite records didn’t get ruined and taking care to avoid scratches. Oh and they would skip! Elvis has such lovely Christmas songs too… I don’t recognize the dancing doll. Guess I never had one of those.
Enjoy this holiday season with your family and friends…
Enjoy this lovely Blue Monday too.
Come by for a visit..
Judi
Spirograph was so much fun. Even though I was never very talented at creating the designs, I tried and tried.
I always wanted an EZ Bake oven. My mom refused. I remember telling her that one day I would have daughters and they would get one. I didn't buy either daughter the oven!
My all time favorite gift was a
children's cookbook. I still enjoy giving and receiving cookbooks for gifts.
Merry Christmas
What a great post, Tammy - thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the pics were great!
Have to say that it was always dolls, dolls, dolls for me.
Hmmm...guess that gives you a clue just how long I longed to be a real mother.
Truly think I was born to be a mother - it's my life calling.
Hope your last few days before Christmas are as magical as mine are, snowbound here in The Dragonfly House.
Love,
Jlo
I did not have any of those things...sad, I know...but still, I can dream about what it would have been like :)
So loving the Elvis!
I keep my lps and you have to just love the vinyl (records that is ..LOL )
Ah, there is nothing like Elvis and Blue Christmas. I still miss him .
Wecome to Blue Monday. I loved your post. That Elvis album sure brought back a lot of memories for me. Blessings to you and your family this Christmas and New Year.
Oh, yes...we of this age were all in love with EP....I still miss him after all these years.
Loved your post...I either DID a post on vintage toys or else have a DRAFT ready to post sometime...
Have a wonderful Christmas...
I always wanted a Lava Lamp. My father always said no. This year, after waiting around 30 years for one, my friends bought me a purple and orange one. I laughed so hard and think this may be my favorite gift ever.
I am so happy to have taken you all on a trip down memory lane. It was for me too! And yes Elvis is still the King!
Lynn...I am so excited for you that you finally got your lava lamp!
Jlo...I had dolls too but with 3 brothers..I was truly a tomboy at heart! Tractors, trucks & pogo sticks!!
Lisa...I love a great cookbook!
Ah..my dear Muse..you know I would have loved to have shared each & every one of these gifts & their fun with no one more than YOU!! Soon we shall share & make memories more precious than material gifts! Cannot wait!
xo
I loved Elvis's "Blue Christmas" album. Don't know whatever happened to mine - it must have been lost in one of our many moves. I still love the King - and yes, the old records with all their skips and scratches still have the neatest sound!
Have you ever heard the Porky Pig version of Blue Christmas? It's a panic!
I remember the first CD I got that replaced an album I'd originally had on vinyl (Paranoid by Black Sabbath, in case you were wondering). And the first few times I listened to it, it just sounded wrong! "War Pigs" is supposed to have a snap-crackle-pop during that moaning guitar intro... what happened to that?
But eventually I got over it.
Hi. I had a hard time finding you. The link from your comment on my blog didn't work and then I tried to find you through Sally and the when I clicked on the link it said that blog had been removed. I finally tried another angle, and here you are. I'm glad I found you. I enjoyed your Blue Monday post. Elvis - I guess every girl was crazy about him. He was just a couple of years older than I was so I was a teenager when he became famous. I went to one of his performances in Long Beach in 1956.
Have a happy Christmas, not a blue one.
Charlotte
Your Blue Monday posting definitely took me back in time. Some of my favourite toys were Lego's and a train set.
I hope you get some great gifts this Christmas to treasure for a lifetime.
I know I'm late but Happy Blue Monday
I had just about all of the above except the Ballerina girl.
Your Pink Saturday is fabulous. You have the magic touch.
Thank you for visiting me.
I love your Slide shows.
